Akamai Forum (2001 - 2002)

Senior usability designer for Akamai Forum; a web-based, full scale, interactive, web-casting application. Supported engineering, product management, and marketing in all aspects of interface, graphic, and usability design, testing, training, and marketing. Working with product managers and product specs, built photoshop mockups and DHTML prototypes of new product features, and assisted engineering during development and Q/A cycles.

PROBLEMS

multiple pages fragmented the reservation process and created too many steps for user to follow

Streamer selection seperate from reservation and easy for user to forget.

encoder resources could be reserved more than once with no warning to the user.

SOLUTION

Created Unified program reservation system and organized user interface more logically.

Tied Windows Media Streamer selection to media and format selection and allowed user to edit streamers without deleting and re-reserving encoders.

New query written to only allow selection of encoders with available resources based on user's reservation choices, automating the reservation and allocation process and saving time for both the users and system administrators.
